CLUB MEMBERS

Our first event was on June 13, 2009 and drew 10 kids.  As of June 6, 2010 we have 145 kids registered.  Our members range from age 2 to 16, but are mostly 6-8 yrs old.  Most of the kids that participated in our events got their very first fishing rod and caught their first fish with our help.  Every kid that has attended an event has caught a fish.  Most have caught several.  Hundreds of bass have been caught at our events, the largest was over 6 lbs. 

In order to keep our events informative and challenging for everyone we continuously evaluate our members based on their skills.  This allows us to divide our members and teach them skills they don't already know, to keep them from getting bored with the club.   Once a member masters all the skills of a particular rank they are awarded with a certificate that they can proudly display for years to come.  Member ranks include minnow, bream and bass.  Our ranks are based upon the members skills and have nothing to do with their age. 

MINNOW fisherman are our beginner members that are just learning how to fish.  They are working mastering the most basic of skills.  At our events the minnow fisherman are fishing mostly with live worms, live minnows and shiners. 

BREAM fisherman are our intermediate members that know all the basics of the sport.  They are still allowed to use live bait but are encouraged to transition into artificial lures.  They still need a bit of help, for example, with unhooking a fish or tying on a hook, but for the most part are able to fish without much assistance.

BASS fisherman are our advanced members who have mastered a very wide variety of skills and do not require any assistance.

MINNOW

• Casting
• Fighting a fish on your own
• Baiting a hook
• Holding your own fish
• Identifying basic species of fish

BREAM

• Tying on a hook
• Removing a hook from a fish
• Catching your own live bait
• Flip casting
• Using a variety of natural and live baits
• Targeting specific species of fish individually
• Catching fish with artificial bait

BASS

• Spooling a fishing reel with new line
• Setting up a new rod and reel
• Removing tangles and knots
• Cast, flip, and pitch
• Using a variety of artificial baits
• Upgrading your catch (i.e. using a worm to catch a bream to catch a bass)
• Identifying a wide variety of fish species
• Understanding the behavior and diet specific species of fish
• Helping other kids learn how to fish
